St. Louis County continues to monitor impacts – to county operations and our residents - resulting from the federal government shutdown. We will continue to update this page as information becomes available.
SNAP provides food assistance for individuals and families with low income.
As of Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, pending Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application approvals are able to continue for October.
County and Tribal agency staff in Minnesota are now able to process pending SNAP applications for the rest of October.
Residents should know that this only impacts SNAP payments for October. According to the MN Department of Children, Youth and Families, November SNAP benefits are still at risk and will not be issued if the federal shutdown continues (unless the DCYF receives guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture).
Anyone who received October SNAP benefits can continue using those benefits as usual.
People who receive SNAP benefits are reminded to keep their contact information up to date with their county or Tribal Nation so they can receive messages about their case.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC) is a nutrition and breastfeeding program that helps eligible pregnant women, new mothers, babies and young children. WIC provides nutrition education and counseling, nutritious foods, and referrals to health and other social services.
For now, WIC services are still operating in Minnesota. WIC recipients should keep their appointments and continue shopping with their eWIC card and using their benefits.
For additional information or guidance, WIC participants can visit their local WIC clinic or State WIC program’s website or the WIC shopper app.
