Incident Summary:

On 03/27/2020 at 1915 hours, local authorities responded to Park Point for a water emergency. Witnesses reported a canoe had capsized and people were in the water. One male self-rescued by grabbing his personal flotation device and swam towards shore. He was assisted by a St. Louis County Rescue Squad Member to shore. A passing fishing boat witnessed the other male still in distress and was able to pull him into their boat and to safety. The two were treated by Mayo Ambulance and Duluth Fire then transported to Essentia Health with non-life threatening injuries.
Personal flotation devices were on board but not worn by the victims. Alcohol and lake conditions are believed to be a factor.
Authorities which provided assistance were St. Louis County Rescue Squad , Duluth Police Department, Duluth Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, Coast Guard and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
