St. Louis County Environmental Services is responsible for solid waste management throughout the county with the exception of the communities within the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District. For convenient and safe disposal of trash and recycling, the department operates:
- The regional landfill and a mixed recycling processing center in Virginia
- Two household hazardous waste collection facilities in Virginia and Hibbing
- Numerous canister sites and transfer stations throughout the County
Attention Residents of Aurora. The City of Aurora has closed their recycling location at Public Works. You can still bring your recycling to the Aurora Transfer Station. The hours of operation are as follows: M, Th, F: 8 am - 4 pm; Tu, W: 10 am - 4 pm; Sa: 8 am - Noon.
