St. Louis County Public Works is responsible for evaluating environmental impacts of road and bridge construction projects, assuring compliance with environmental regulations. As part of our project planning process, St. Louis County works closely with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, US Army Corps of Engineers, and other entities involved with protecting and improving streams and wetlands. Permits are obtained as required by applicable state and federal rules. The county is also responsible for developing and coordinating the Department's roadside vegetation maintenance program, the hazardous waste management program, and the storm water management and mitigation program.
