St. Louis County Sheriff's Office Citizens' Academy

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Academy offers citizens an inside look at local law enforcement through interactive presentations and tours. Join us and learn what your Sheriff’s Office does to make St. Louis County a great place to live and work. The Citizens’ Academy is a 12-week course starting March 4, 2025. The majority of classes will take place at the Public Safety Building, 2030 N Arlington Ave, in Duluth with additional sessions held at relevant locations for tours, including the St. Louis County Jail and Emergency Operations Center.

 

Any St. Louis County resident ages 18 or older may apply. Applicants will be required to pass a criminal background check. The deadline to apply is February 21, 2025.

Sheriff Gordon Ramsay oversees a staff of 290 individuals who work in the various agencies or divisions. The Sheriff's Office staff continually strive for new technologies and equipment that place the best tools available in the hands of quality people.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office consists of eight agencies or divisions: Sheriff, Boat and Water Safety, Homeland Security/Emergency Management, Rescue Squad, Law Enforcement Services, Emergency Communications, Radio Maintenance and Jail.

The Sheriff's Agency has five subdivisions: Administration, Patrol, Investigations, Civil/Warrants, and Court Security.

The mission of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is to work in partnership with the community, other county departments, and other governmental units to provide enhanced, high quality, and cost-effective public safety services through innovation, leadership, cooperation and the strength of our dedicated people.
