The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is offering its popular Citizens' Academy again for residents in Duluth and surrounding communities in the southern part of the county. The Citizens' Academy provides a unique inside look at the Sheriff's Office and how it operates. Based on feedback from participants in previous Citizens' Academies, the course is being expanded to 12 weeks. Classes begin March 4 and will be offered Tuesdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m., with graduation set for May 20. Classes will include interactive presentations and tours to give citizens a better understanding of the range of services provided by the Sheriff's Office.

The scam calls parties claiming a relative (Grandson is most commonly used) is in jail and they are required to send money for their bail and release. The new scam has parties showing up for collection at residences after these calls have been placed. Victims within St. Louis Couty have been taken for large sums of money in the Britt, Ely, and Hibbing areas in the past 48 hours.
