On January 21st, 2025, at about 1830 hours, law enforcement officers were called to a report of a 19-year-old female with a gunshot wound at Aspirus St. Lukes hospital in Duluth. Through investigation, it was learned the female, and a 17-year-old male had driven out to the area of the 6200 block of the Berquist Rd in Duluth Township to meet with another individual, later identified as 19-year-old EVAN WARREN EDBLOM. During the encounter, EDBLOM produced a .22 caliber handgun and fired numerous rounds into the vehicle driven by the two victims. The female sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her foot. After the shooting, they drove to Aspirus St. Lukes hospital, where the female victim was ultimately treated and released. The parties were known to each other and the incident is believed to be drug related.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office will hold a swearing-in ceremony Wednesday, January 29, at 3 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 2030 Arlington Avenue, Duluth. Six new deputies and 14 correctional officers will take an oath to serve and be sworn in.
