County Assessor offers reminder: homestead application deadline is December 31

The St. Louis County Assessor's Department has an important reminder for anyone who's moved in the last year: the deadline to apply for homestead classification is December 31, 2024. The property owner must apply for this classification. It does not happen automatically at closing.

St. Louis County completes three-year "Bridge Bundling" project

Over the last three construction seasons, St. Louis County Public Works has replaced 17 bridges throughout the County, while MnDOT replaced an additional four bridges in neighboring Carlton County. The 21 bridges were awarded as one large "Bridge Bundling" project contract as part of a new Federal program to see if cost savings could be achieved by bundling similar projects together. The final cost for all 21 bridges is $25.33 million, an estimated savings of 10-15% compared to if each project had been done separately.

Tristan St. Clair Sentenced for Attempted Second Degree Murder

Today, the Honorable Dale O. Harris sentenced Tristan Jade St. Clair, 24, to 240 months in prison for Attempted Second Degree Murder, St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said.  Mr. St. Clair previously entered a guilty plea on September 30, 2024.

Geothermal field approved for use at St. Louis County landfill

The St. Louis County Landfill in Virginia is now finding a new use for the garbage that is hauled there - turning it into an energy source. County leaders on Tuesday held a ribbon cutting at the landfill's new geothermal field, the first of its kind in the state.
