The Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force (LSVOTF) arrested Phillip Lamount Davis DOB 12/24/1970 after reports indicated Davis was continuing to sell methamphetamine/fentanyl and enlisting others to assist in transporting. Davis had previously been indicted in US Federal Court, plead guilty, and was on electronic monitoring while awaiting sentencing in October 2024 for trafficking methamphetamine. On July 9, 2024, a federal warrant was issued for Davis, and he remains in federal custody.

UTV rollover in Ellsburg Township

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a UTV rollover in the area of Cotton at 1902 hours. A 32-year-old Duluth man was reported to have rolled his UTV he was driving and had a severe injury to one of his hands. The patient was transported by personal vehicle to the Speedway gas station on Comstock Lake Road and was attended to by Cotton Fire, Meadowlands Ambulance and the St. Lous County Rescue Squad. North Memorial Air Care also responded to the scene and transported the male to Essentia Health Duluth for his injuries via helicopter. The patient was stable and conscious throughout. 

Alcohol and Drugs were not a factor in the crash. Speed was the likely contributing factor. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.

St. Louis County Environmental Services is expanding its collection services for household hazardous waste (HHW) to make it easier for residents to dispose of paints, stains and other HHW materials that often are stored in basements and garages that may have flooded.

Property owners affected by flooding reminded to submit damage reports

The St. Louis County Assessors Department has started touring flood damaged homes and businesses - including nearly 200 in the Cook area this week - and wants to remind all property owners affected by the June 18 storm to complete the County's flood damage reporting form. People can access the damage reporting online at stlouiscountymn.gov/flood or can call the Assessor's Department at 218-726-2604 and a staff member can assist with completing and submitting the form. The form typically takes just a few minutes to complete, and property owners are encouraged to include descriptive photos showing the damage.

On July 3rd, 2024 at 0101 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of County Road 77 and Lake Vermilion Reservation Road, in rural Greenwood Twp., west of Tower, MN due to a reported Recreational Vehicle (RV) that was on fire, in the intersection.  No injuries reported.
