A father and son had been grouse hunting in a remote area when they realized they were lost. Sheriff's Deputies, Rescue Squad and other law enforcement successfully located the men using GPS coordinates from the men's cell phones.

A collision between an ATV and a deer in Alango Township resulted in the ATV driver beting thrown from his vehicle. The man, whose identity has not been released, was air lifted to a Duluth hospital due to possible internal injuries.

Fatal car crash in Pike Township / north of Virginia

On 10/18/24 at around 7:30 AM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a vehicle rollover in the 6300 block of Pike Township.  Upon arrival, deputies found the sole occupant who was the driver deceased in the car.  The vehicle had been traveling southbound on Hwy 21 and lost control, rolling his vehicle until it hit a tree in the ditch.

Escaped jail inmate Hibbing, Minnesota

On 10/17/2024, Inmate Laron Lyndell Brown was being seen at the Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing, Minnesota, after reporting to jail staff that he was having chest pains.  Brown was in custody for felony domestic assault by strangulation charge and was being held on $100,000.00 bail.  Brown was being guarded by a St. Louis County Deputy throughout the medical screening.

Calling all superheroes, princesses and kids in whatever other costumes are popular this Halloween! The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia Police Department are partnering with Legacy Church and Recovery Alliance Duluth (RAD) to host a Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, October 26, from 2-4 p.m., in the Plaza 53 parking lot, 5465 Mountain Iron Drive.
