County highlights property tax refund programs available to residents

With 2024 St. Louis County property tax statements arriving in the mail over the next two weeks, county leaders want to highlight two state programs that could provide residents with property tax refunds - regular homestead credit and the special homestead credit.

Two students from St. Louis County earn $2,000 scholarships from the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association

The Minnesota Sheriffs' Association (MSA) has announced its annual list of scholarship winners,
and two area college students are among the 16 recipients. Andrew Shamberger of Duluth and Nils DeRemee of Ely each received a $2,000 scholarship to assist with education costs as they pursue a degree that will lead to a career in law enforcement.

On March 12th, 2023, at 0917 hours, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of Wolf Road and County Hwy 101, in rural Mt. Iron.  It had been reported that a small passenger car had struck a commercial vehicle and the driver of the car was stuck in the vehicle.

People who live in communities with emergency sirens are used to hearing those sirens sound as a test at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. However, today's siren test in St. Louis County mistakenly gave the impression of a real emergency.
