On January 8th, the Honorable Robert C. Friday sentenced Douglas Lee Anderson, 70, to 41 months at the Department of Corrections for his role in the November 11, 2021, death of Stanley Erkkila, St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said. Mr. Anderson pleaded guilty to Criminal Vehicular Homicide on November 13, 2023.

St. Louis County commissioners today selected their longest serving and newest serving members for key leadership roles for 2024. The Board chose Commissioner Keith Nelson to serve as County Board Chair, and Commissioner Annie Harala as Vice Chair.

On Saturday December 30th, 2023, at approximately 0605 A.M. St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies and area first responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle head on accident with injuries, on Hwy 5 in Balkan Township, just South of the Hibbing Taconite main entrance as a result of ice-covered roadway. One driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from their vehicle and is being treated for life threatening injuries. The other driver was treated at the scene with minor injuries and released.

DAVID LANGMO has been located and was found in the City of Cloquet after a missing persons report was submitted on 12/29/2023, shortly after 1:30pm. 

Road conditions that are more typical for April during spring thaw are happening now in December on St. Louis County roads. Excessive rain and warm temperatures are deteriorating gravel roads, and Public Works is limited in what it can do to make repairs. Anyone encountering unsafe road conditions can report them by calling 911.
