Spring load restrictions have now been announced for the North Zone of Minnesota, which includes the majority of St. Louis County, from north of US Highway 2 and east of State Highway 33. Restrictions will go into effect on Monday, March 11, at 12:01 a.m.

Public meeting set to discuss future reconstruction of County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 100 in Aurora

St. Louis County Public Works staff will host a public meeting to listen to community input in preparation for the reconstruction of a nearly two-mile stretch of County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 100 in Aurora. The meeting will be Tuesday, March 19, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Aurora Community Center, 15 West 1st Avenue North. The meeting also will be available to view virtually. ATV and rider through the ice on Birch Lake Babbitt, MN

On March 2nd, 2024 at approximately 07:10 A.M., Area first responders were notified of a person that had fallen through the ice on their ATV on the North Bay area of Birch Lake, outside of the City of Babbitt, MN. The driver and lone occupant, a 64 yr old male from the Babbitt area and his vehicle sunk into the water after encountering a pressure ridge. Both were pulled from the water by first responders with no serious injuries reported.

ATV Crash

ATV Crash

On March 1st, 2023 at 8:45pm, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to an ATV crash with injuries, located within the 2600 Block of Co. Rd. 77, Greenwood Township.  A Fairbault resident was visiting a family cabin for the weekend and had gone on an ATV ride.  While navigating a steep ditch on Co. Rd 77, the ATV slid downhill, on ice and then flipped over, landing on the driver of the ATV.  The driver later had to be transported via helicopter to a Duluth area hospital for serious injuries.

Spring road restrictions announced for portion of St. Louis County roads

Spring load restrictions have been announced for the North-Central Zone of Minnesota, which includes the southwest corner of St. Louis County. Restrictions will go into effect on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 12:01 a.m. The North-Central Zone includes the area south of US Highway 2 and west of State Highway 33.
