Teen injured after losing control of vehicle on snow packed road

A vehicle being driven by a 16 year old lost control on the snow packed slippery roads in Mt. Iron and overturned in the ditch.  The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and transported to the Essentia Hospital in Virginia by ambulance with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.

Fatal accident on Vermilion Trail

On October 31, 2023, at 3:53 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a report of an iPhone crash alert in the area of Vermilion Trail and Harris Bay Road in unorganized township 55R14. Shortly after, a citizen, who had stopped to help, called in and reported that a child was stuck under the vehicle. The vehicle had rolled and was resting on its side. Unfortunately, despite lifesaving efforts by responders, a 5-year-old child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult driver and another child were also in the vehicle and transported by the Hoyt Lakes Ambulance Service to Essentia Health Northern Pines Hospital in Aurora with minor injuries.
