The St. Louis County Board will hold two public meetings to receive comments on its proposed operating budget and tax levy for 2024. Both meetings will include a presentation about the budget and levy, and an opportunity for citizens to address the Board with questions or comments. The first meeting is Monday, November 20, at 7 p.m. in the St. Louis County Courthouse in Virginia, lower-level conference room. The second meeting will be Monday, November 27, at 7 p.m. at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Duluth. 

On November 15, 2023 at approximately 1854 hours, area first responders and law enforcement were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle accident. It was reported that a vehicle, which was traveling westbound on the Nett Lake Road located southwest of Orr, Minnesota had gone off the road flipped and struck a tree.  The driver was pronounced deceased on scene while the passenger, whose condition was considered critical, was transported by an EMS helicopter to a Duluth area hospital for advanced care. Both passengers were teenagers.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is hosting "Coffee with a Cop" - an event aimed at building relationships and encouraging conversation between citizens and deputies. The event will be Thursday, November 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Adventures Restaurant, 5475 Mountain Iron Drive in Virginia.

On November 13, 2023 members of the Lake Superior Violent Offenders Task Force arrested an individual at the Cenex gas station at 3504 Hwy 53 in Fayal Township. A search warrant was later obtained for the vehicle involved and during the search, approximately 5lbs of methamphetamine was located along with $1000.00 US currency. The individual was later booked into the St. Louis Co Jail in Virginia for 1st degree sales of methamphetamine.

The St. Louis County Assessor's Department has an important reminder for anyone who's moved in the last year: the deadline to apply for homestead classification is December 31, 2023. Full eligibility rules can be found online at stlouiscountymn.gov/assessor.
