Jana Blomberg recognized as rising leader in Public Health

Jana Blomberg, a St. Louis County Public Health Program Coordinator, has been honored as one of the 40 Under 40 in Public Health in recognition of her work. The de Beaumont Foundation announced its Class of 2023 on Sept. 7, after reviewing nominations from hundreds of professionals working to benefit state or local public health across the United States. The 40 Under 40 recognition is more than an award, it's also a two-year professional development program, in which Blomberg will now participate.

Scholarships available for law enforcement students

Scholarships available for law enforcement students

The Minnesota Sheriff's Association (MSA) is offering up to 20 scholarships worth $2,000 each to law enforcement students.  These scholarships are due to the coordinated efforts of the 87 Sheriffs of the State of Minnesota, and St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay is encouraging students in this area to apply.

St. Louis County responding to windstorm damage in Aurora/Hoyt Lakes area

A wind storm on August 5th resulted in a significant number of trees and large branches blown down in the Gilbert, Aurora and Hoyt Lakes region. St. Louis County Public Works crews responded overnight and again the following morning to assess damage and begin clearing trees that are blocking roads.

Public Works crews are working in cooperation with Lake Country Power and other utility companies, as there are numerous downed power lines mixed within the trees, creating added challenges as they work to clear roads. People are reminded to stay away from any downed power lines, and to call 911 to report unsafe road conditions.

Missing person

The St Louis County Sheriff's Office and Rescue Squad are asking for the public’s assistance with locating Glenn Stevenson, a 63-year-old Willow Valley Township resident. Mr. Stevenson was last seen walking on the Willow River Rd, approximately 1/4 of a mile south of Gheen, MN on Saturday, September 2nd at approximately 0952 hours.  According to a family member of Mr. Stevenson, he suffers from Parkinson’s and has not taken his medications for several days. 

Mr. Stevenson is approximately 5’10” tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds. Mr. Stevenson was last seen wearing a Tee-shirt under a green and blue flannel shirt and blue jeans. The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have information related to Mr. Stevenson whereabouts to call 911 reference case 23129421.

Juvenile male injured in ATV accident

Juvenile male injured in ATV accident

On September 2nd, 2023, at approximately 7:30 P.M. St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the report of an ATV accident with injuries on the Taconite Trail - "Wooden Table Spur" in Unorganized Township 60R 19, which is approximately 15 miles North of the City of Buhl. Area first responders arrived at the ATV trail and found a 13yr old male, from the Eveleth area, suffering from injuries sustained when the ATV flipped over and ejected the driver, and lone occupant of the ATV off of the machine. The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital by the Chisholm Ambulance.
