More than 2,500 people are scheduled to attend the 41st annual St. Louis County Health & Human Services Conference, which opens Wednesday at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC). The Northern St. Louis County Mental Health Local Advisory Council (LAC) is hosting a public meeting and listening session to gather input on mental health needs for children, older adults, and law enforcement. The listening session will be Thursday, October 19, 4:30-7 p.m., at the Mt. Iron Community Center, 8586 Enterprise Drive in Mt. Iron. Personal stories of lived experiences - either anonymously or to be shared as part of the conversation - can also be submitted through an online survey at https://bit.ly/Northern SLCMentalHealth.

On October 7, 2023 at approximately 1942 hours, area first responders and law enforcement were dispatched to the report of a 38-year-old female who had been struck in the chest by a tree branch while riding as a passenger in a side-by-side type of ATV. The incident took place on a designated ATV trail located south of Hibbing.  

The female was transported by ambulance to Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing where she was later pronounced deceased. There was no indication of alcohol use nor excessive speed.

The accident remains under investigation by the St Louis County Sheriffs Office.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the report a two vehicle accident with injuries in the 3700 block of Martin Road in the City of Rice Lake. A mini van collided with a flat bed truck. The front passenger of the mini van was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the mini van was transported via ambulance to Essentia Hospital in Duluth. The driver of the flat bed truck was unharmed.
