St. Louis County Public Works crews are making improvements to Beatty Road in Beatty Township north of Cook that is resulting in temporary closures of the road. The project began in July and is expected to continue until mid-September.

Groundbreaking for shelter serving families on Iron Range experiencing homelessness

Representatives from Range Transitional Housing, St. Louis County, the City of Virginia and Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation celebrated the start of the approximately $2 million project, which is expected to open next spring. The 4,700 square foot fourplex will provide short-term housing for four families at a time with up to 16 beds. It will be located next to Range Transitional Housing's office at 220 5th Street North in Virginia.

6-year-old injured in ATV/brush mower accident

6-year-old injured in ATV/brush mower accident

The child was a passenger riding behind an adult operator mowing trails with an attached pull behind brush mower.
As they were mowing the 6 year old fell off of the ATV and was run over by the brush mower.  She was transported by Ambulance to the Cook hospital and then transported by North Memorial Air Care to the Minneapolis Children's Hospital with serious injuries.
