Lost Hunter North of Orr, Mn. (Located)

On September 29th, 2023 at approximately 10:30 P.M. Saint Louis County Sheriff's deputies along with the Saint Louis County Rescue Squad responded to the area of the 12000 block of Leslie Road in unorganized Township 68R21 for an overdue hunter. A 62 year old male along with his dog walked from a cabin in the area to go hunting at approximately 5:00 P.M. and had not returned.  At approximately 8:45 A.M. on September 30th the male was located after he walked out of the woods near the Rescue Squad Command post that was setup in the area.

Fatal crash

On 9/28/2023 at around 6am, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with other EMS and Law Enforcement agencies responded to a two vehicle crash on Park Ridge Drive at the MinnTac entrance in the City of Mountain Iron.  The crash involved a commercial vehicle carrying hazardous materials (oxidizing agent) traveling west and a Ford SUV traveling east.  The driver of the Ford was deceased and trapped in his vehicle upon arrival of deputies.  The driver of the commercial vehicle was taken by ambulance to the Virginia hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The investigation is ongoing at this time.  Excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the seriousness of the crash. No hazardous materials leak resulted from the crash.

Train vs Semi Collision in Ault Township

On September 27, 2023, at 1152 hours the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a CN train versus semi in the 1800 block of Brimson Road in Ault Township. It was reported that a logging truck was struck by a train and the logs were all over the roadway and train tracks. There was no derailment, and no hazardous materials were spilled. Upon responders arriving on scene, the driver of the semi, a 57-year-old Two Harbors man, was attended to for his injuries and was ultimately transported by the Lake County Ambulance to the St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth for his injuries.  Both CN employees who were on the train at the time were not injured.

St. Louis County Veterans Service Office in Duluth temporarily moves

The St. Louis County Veterans Service Office in Duluth has temporarily had to relocate due to water damage from this past weekend's heavy rain. For the next several weeks, Veterans Service Officers and other staff will be working out of the AP Cook Building, 2505 Rice Lake Road. All services for veterans and their family members are available from this temporary location. Contact information to schedule an appointment in Duluth remains the same: 218-725-5285.

This temporary move does not affect any of the county's other Veterans Services Offices, which are in Virginia, Hibbing and Ely.

St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay today recognized the life saving responses of citizens, volunteer firefighters, law enforcement other first responders, and 911 emergency communications specialists as he presented 911 Lifesaver Awards to the people involved in three separate incidents.
