On Sunday June 30, 2024, at approximately 12:13 P.M., the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was notified of a water emergency on Crane Lake, outside of the Voyageurs National Park boundaries. 

A 50 yr. old male from Embarrass, MN, trained as a SCUBA diver conducted a salvage mission failed to resurface. The victim was brought to shore, however despite exhaustive medical efforts on scene, the victim was pronounced dead.
