On February 24, 2023 at approximately 1608 hours, area responders were dispatched to a reported plane crash near Grassy Point. Multiple witnesses contacted 911 emergency communications to report the crash. Upon arrival by first responders, a lone 52-year-old male from  Hermantown was located deceased at the scene. No one else was in the aircraft at the time of the crash. No structures in the area were damaged and the crash happened on the ice of the harbor.

Renovations complete at 911 Emergency Communications Center

A four-month project to renovate and modernize the St. Louis County 911 Emergency Communications Center is now complete. Staff began fully operating out of the remodeled space at the Public Safety Building in Duluth earlier this month.
The project included rewiring the facility and purchasing 14 new Public Safety Answering Point Consoles. The remodel also involved new flooring and paint, plus an improved layout for better continuity of operations and efficiency between staff.
